THE LOCATION
South Molton is set to become a vibrant and internationally significant destination in the heart of London’s Mayfair, transforming two acres of the area into a lively hub for shopping, dining, working, and living. This new development will follow the historic street patterns of Mayfair, offering a diverse range of shops, cafes, and restaurants, all within a short distance of Bond Street Station and Oxford Street.
The project will feature two cutting-edge office buildings, 33 new homes, and a luxurious new 5-star hotel at 40-46 Brook Street, creating a dynamic community with distinct energy. Pioneering world-class design and construction practices, South Molton aims to enhance the area’s historic charm through the repurposing of buildings and improved streetscapes.
With a total of 370,000 sq. ft. of mixed-use space, the South Molton Triangle will introduce substantial office areas, market and affordable housing, community spaces, and pedestrian-friendly enhancements, all while preserving notable landmarks.
The 267,000 sq. ft. centerpiece of the South Molton Triangle will feature two premier office buildings, offering corporate headquarters options in one of the West End’s most desirable areas, along with ground-floor retail and outlet spaces.
THE BRIEF
Located within the Mayfair Conservation Area, this development is notable for its inclusion of several Grade II listed buildings. To maintain the area’s historical integrity, the project emphasizes the preservation of external façades, which are either kept intact or meticulously dismantled and stored for future rebuilding. The façade retention scheme on Brook Street is essential, as it ensures that these historic structures are supported during the construction process.
Initially, the project involved a comprehensive soft-strip and the safe removal of hazardous materials. Now, a robust façade retention system is implemented, accompanied by essential underpinning activities, demolition, piling, bulk excavation, and the construction of reinforced concrete for the new basement and core.
To enhance the site’s visual appeal during this phase, the Embrace Building Wraps team were engaged to install decorative printed wraps covering the prominent elevations along Brook Street and Davies Street.
THE SOLUTION
Our comprehensive engineering solution incorporated a groundbreaking offset frame and printed building wrap that skilfully concealed the retention system.
A standout feature of our work was the installation of impressive printed wraps that envelop both façade retention systems, with the largest wrap covering a stunning 520m². This exemplifies our industry-leading capabilities in large-format printing. The wraps were crafted and fitted as giant, seamless pieces, ensuring an impeccable and cohesive look.
The design itself is truly captivating, featuring a refined black backdrop adorned with South Molton x Mayfair branding that embodies sophistication and elegance.
The project showcases our expertise in transforming construction retention systems or scaffolding into eye-catching visual displays. Furthermore, we successfully completed the project within the stipulated timeframe and budget, demonstrating our commitment to excellence.
This innovative design not only enhances the local aesthetic but also offers an elevated experience for visitors, also significantly improving the visual ambiance for guests at the prestigious Claridge’s Hotel, located directly across from the project site.
Set to open in 2027, South Molton’s residential, commercial, and retail developments aim to transform this Mayfair area into a must-visit destination for the millions who visit the West End annually.
