THE DEVELOPMENT Coventry University are transforming the former Civic Centre 2 building into a new research and academic facilities hub. The grade II-listed 1950s office block will be converted into a modern six-storey landmark building with over 11,000 m2 of floor space, whilst respecting key aspects of the property’s heritage. The regeneration will create new offices and world-class flexible teaching spaces alongside providing 36 apartments as accommodation for university staff and visiting lecturers. The site will also include public spaces for the wider community as a new cultural centre including a 350-seat ground floor auditorium, café, exhibition & gallery space, and an outdoor realm.

A second phase expansion of the city-centre campus. to the south of the site will include three additional buildings, however the regeneration will commence after the UK City of Culture year of celebrations is over.

THE BRIEF Coventry’s year as UK City of Culture starts with celebrations including a series of incredible events bringing a huge boost in visitors and to tourism. The levelled area adjacent to the Civic Centre 2 has been prepared for use as an event space ahead of any construction, surrounded by site hoarding.
Embrace were appointed to provide a building wrap to disguise the unsightly scaffolding covering the building and to provide attractive printed site hoarding graphics for the perimeter of the event space.

THE SOLUTION Our team produced and installed a bespoke offset frame supporting the 1,400 m2 digitally-printed scaffold wrap across all four sides of the property. The design highlights the Coventry University global community and teases the future appearance of the renovated building.

285 metres of digital-printed ACM panels were used to fully clad the site hoardings surrounding the event space. Coventry University developed the impactful creative design to highlight their contribution and heritage.There will be a further run of site hoarding protection inside the hoarding line to protect the civic centre & a vaulted medieval basement which will feature a further 185 metres of digitally-printed site hoarding graphics.

The elements were delivered on time and to budget by and have transformed the space, paving the way for the new heart of the city, cultural celebrations, and future of the University.
